Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nuclear Astrophysics

Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, NM , United States

Published Fri, 11/09/2018 - 9:08 AM Expiration Mon, 01/07/2019 - 12:00 AM or until the posting is filled

The T-2 group (Nuclear and Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology) in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in nuclear astrophysics to begin as early as spring 2019. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in nuclear physics or a closely related field by the beginning of the postdoctoral appointment (but no earlier than 2013 per LANL policy).

Our group conducts research on a broad set of topics in theoretical nuclear astrophysics with particular focus on nuclear structure, reaction mechanisms and fission properties relevant for the study of nucleosynthesis. LANL scientists working in these areas include Chris Fryer, Toshihiko Kawano, Oleg Korobkin, Jonas Lippuner, Matthew Mumpower, Mark Paris and Ionel Stetcu. We collaborate actively with our colleagues throughout the laboratory and have close ties with ongoing collaborations in astrophysics and experimental physics.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early career scientist to develop an independent research program in the exciting field of nuclear astrophysics. Candidates with expertise in any of the aforementioned areas are strongly encouraged to apply. Exceptionally well qualified candidates may be considered for a Director's Postdoctoral Fellowship or Distinguished (Feynman/Oppenheimer) Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Los Alamos is an equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should submit their applications (CV, research statement, and list of publications) on academicjobsonline.org and arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation uploaded on your behalf.

Applications should be submitted by January 7, 2019, for full consideration.

For eligibility and salary information, please see LANL Postdoc Eligibility and LANL Postdoctoral Salary Guidelines.
