Predoctoral Contract for a PhD in Experimental Nuclear Physics
We offer a Predoctoral Contract for PhD students (old FPI grants) at the Center
Severo Ochoa of Excellence Instituto de Fisica Corpuscular (CSIC and University
of Valencia) to work in research related to the project "Nuclear structure and
astrophysics experiments with radioactive ions and neutron beams and applications"
(FPA2017-83946-C2-1-P, PI: J.L. Tain, C. Domingo).
The successful candidate will work on the measurement of decay properties of the
doubly magic nucleus 100Sn using the total absorption gamma-ray spectroscopy
technique with our newly developed DTAS spectrometer. The experiment will be
carried at the radioactive beam facility of the RIKEN Nishina Center in Japan. The
responsibilities of the PhD student will be: preparation of the experimental campaign,
realization of the measurements, data analysis, and interpretation of results in the
light of theoretical calculations. As part of his training, the student will participate also
in other research projects and experiments carried out by the group.
We are searching for well-motivated, creative students, with proven academic track
records and keen of experimental work. Studies in nuclear and particle physics and
experimental techniques will be valued. The candidates must hold a Master degree.
They must be proficient in English and have good communication and team-working
skills to be able to work in an international collaboration.
