Flip Books
Flip Books are an excellent way to educate about upcoming celestial events (such as comets) involving motion. Students draw the event as it would look at different times from the same vantage point and then "flip" through the booklet to view it as an animation.
Bouncy Balls
Kids love playing with ooblek almost as much as they love making slime. When you combine slime ingredients with cornstarch, it creates a bouncy ball that feels like rubber.
Dot Painting
From pointillism to printers and digital screens, many images are the result of many dots that optically blend into a cohesive picture. This activity encourages children to think like a computer and create an image from individual dots in primary colors.
Pendulum Painting
The motion of a pendulum isn't always intuitive and can be confusing when taught with static visuals. Using a pendulum to create a patterned paintings is an engaging way for children to gain an understanding of periodic motion.
