Portrait Theater Performances
Curie, Meitner, Lamarr Indivisible is a theater production of Portrait Theater, which explores the lives and achievements of three scientists. Actress Anita Zieher portrayed Marie Curie, Lise Meitner, and Hedy Lamarr in a 3-act play. She was joined by only one staff person, director and technician, Sandra Schüddekopf.
JINA-CEE hosted free performances on back to back nights at ND and MSU with over 200 attendees at each. The MSU performance was held at NSCL and preceded by lab tours. Both shows were followed by a reception so attendees could meet theater personnel and current scientists. All feedback from attendees was positive.
Students from the Berrien County Juvenile Detention Center were in attendance at the Notre Dame performance as one of their monthly outings to the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. As an unintended consequence, JINA-CEE was invited to the Center to teach the students about the nuclear science they play introduced them to. We used magnetic marble lessons as well as commercial radioactive goods to explain the science behind the play. We were asked to return next year as well.
